Oxford Connecticut is located in western New Haven County, Connecticut. In the 2000 census, the official population was just under 10,000.

Oxford, Connecticut has historically been thought of as a very rural town with a small but active farming population. In the past 15 years or so, Oxford has transformed from a sleepy rural town to a suburban community of mid to upper-class families. Much of the growth has been attributed to reasonably and comparatively better priced real estate, though still quite pricey compared to some of the surrounding towns to south of Oxford Connecticut. Some of the residents make a daily commute to New York City. The town of Oxford is building a new high school.

Oxford Connecticut has a small downtown area with several small shopping centers. Bigger mall centers can be found within a 30 minute drive in Danbury or Waterbury, Connecticut.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 86.5 km?(33.4 mi?. 85.2 km?(32.9 mi? of it is land and 1.3 km?(0.5 mi? of it (1.50%) is water.
The median income for a household in Oxford, Connecticut in 2000 was $89,463. There was a sizable difference in income between men and woman with men earning a median income of $76,458 versus $52,231 for females. The per capita income for the town was $62,250. Only 1.6% of families and 2.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.2% of those under age 18 and 1.4% of those age 65 or over.

Oxford is bordered by seven small towns. All are comparable in size and include Beacon Falls, Middlebury, Monroe, Naugatuck, Newtown, Seymour and Southbury.
